Impact
By David Krug, Co-Founder, CollegeRanker
Education Changed Our Lives. We're Paying It Forward.
CollegeRanker exists because education is the most reliable engine of upward mobility in the world. Chetty's data proves it. A student born into poverty who attends the right college has a measurable, quantifiable chance of reaching the upper income brackets within a generation.
But that chance isn't distributed equally. Not in the United States. Not globally. Millions of children never get to the starting line.
10–25% of our quarterly net revenue goes directly to Young Focus.
Not a one-time donation. Not a marketing partnership. A standing commitment, every quarter, scaled to how the business performs.
Young Focus provides education, nutrition, and community development programs to children and families in Tondo, Manila — one of the most densely populated urban areas in the Philippines. Their programs cover early childhood education, academic tutoring, vocational training, feeding programs, and family support services.
The connection to CollegeRanker's mission is direct. We use data to help American families find colleges that deliver upward mobility. Young Focus builds the educational foundation for children who otherwise wouldn't have access to school at all. Both organizations believe the same thing: education is the lever that changes a family's trajectory across generations.
When CollegeRanker earns revenue — through affiliate partnerships that connect families to educational programs — a meaningful percentage of that revenue flows to Young Focus. In strong quarters, the commitment is 25%. In leaner periods, the floor is 10%. The commitment is unconditional and ongoing.
Why Young Focus
Young Focus operates in Tondo, Manila. The organization runs five core programs: early childhood education for children ages 3-5, an after-school academic program supporting elementary and high school students, vocational training for young adults, a daily feeding program, and family development services that help parents build stable home environments.
The students in these programs face challenges that would be unimaginable to most American college applicants. Many live in homes without running water. Some share a single room with extended family. The nearest school may be overcrowded, underfunded, or simply inaccessible.
Young Focus closes that gap with direct, sustained intervention — not temporary relief. Their model keeps children in school, fed, and supported through graduation. The outcomes compound across generations, exactly the way Chetty's research shows college mobility does in the United States.
The Math
CollegeRanker generates revenue through affiliate partnerships. When a family clicks "Find My Degree" and connects with an educational program through our platform, we earn a referral fee. That fee funds the site, the data pipeline, the editorial operation, and — through our commitment to Young Focus — educational programs for children in Manila.
Every quarter, we calculate net revenue after operating costs. Between 10% and 25% of that figure is donated to Young Focus. The percentage scales with performance: better quarters mean larger donations. The floor ensures Young Focus can count on consistent support regardless of market conditions.
We'll publish quarterly impact reports on this page as the commitment matures.
